January 2006
IR adds Realtime Closed Captioning to list of services. Starting January 2006, Independent Reporters
began providing realtime closed-captioning services to the television broadcast
industry. With this, all services will be handled and coordinated by our
Broadcast Captioning Division.
Starting with some local newscasts in the United States at the start of 2006, IR
has now added on additional programming to include sports and legislative
closed-captioning services in both Canada and the United States to our resume.
IR is also available to broadcasters to cover additional programming or
emergency services, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Realtime closed-captioning is a service added on
by television broadcasters for live programming. Closed-captioning
provides a text feed to viewers so that they can read the text of a television
newscast. This text is typically encoded into the broadcast signal and can
be decoded with most current television sets by turning on the decoder in the
set. Closed-captioning has traditionally been used by deaf or
hard-of-hearing viewers to allow them to access and understand television
programs. However, hearing people who use the service also find a benefit
to watching the captions.

February 2006
CART services expand across Canada and also into the United States.
In February 2006, IR crossed the border to
provide CART services in the United States. Already providing CART
services across Canada, the expansion of services to the United States now has
IR providing CART for educational institutes from the Atlantic Ocean to the
Pacific Ocean, and points inbetween.
Back in the fall of 2005, IR began providing all CART services on a remote
basis. In the fall of 2005, IR institutued changes to our core system and
transistioned our services to be done over the Internet instead of the
traditional use of analog phone lines. This makes setup for students
easier, and helps to reduce the extra costs associated with the old phone lines.
Now, with an Internet connection, we can offer CART services to any location.

IR is the only firm in Western Canada with it's own Certified
Legal Video Specialist.
IR has provided in-house legal video services for de benne esse,
depositions, and other legal matters since 2005. Our
videographer has recently completed his testing and is the only
certified in-house CLVS in Western Canada.
Having our own in-house video services is important for our
clients as well as out-of-town clients who require professional
video services. With our own CLVS, you are assured
professional and quality services from someone who is certified
by the NCRA, not someone who does legal work as an extra source
of revenue..
While other firms will hire a local videographer that is not
really familiar with the demands and exacting requirements of
the legal industry, using IR's Certified Legal Video Specialist
will ensure that the services for your upcoming files is of the
highest standards and ethics for our industry.
